Modeling Growth in Freshwater
Notes:
We developed a generalized bioenergetics model following the methods described by Mangel and Satterthwaite (2008) and parameters described by Sullivan et al. (2000). According to this model, growth is defined as the difference between anabolic gains (i.e. consumption) and catabolic losses (i.e. energy lost through respiration). Factors affecting growth in our model include stream temperature and food availability. According to our current growth model, growth peaks around 18 degrees C and then declines sharply. The model can be easily modified to explore different assumptions concerning optimal growth temperatures or food availability.
