To be sure the data was randomly sampled, all NDS tubes were mixed and randomly selected to be placed on the frame and submerged in the water and held in place by rocks or stakes

However, in the fall there was flooding and two of the frames were washed downstream. One was retrieved but the other was lost.

The area the frames were placed was also somewhat random but did require accessibility.
