Notes:
In order to translate WUA into a measure of capacity, it is necessary to estimate the amount of area that an individual fish will occupy. Grant and Kramer (1990) developed this relationship for juvenile salmonids showing an exponential increase in territory size as a function of fish length. Thus, for a given fish size, rearing capacity is calculated as WUA/territory size. For our hypothetical example, we assumed sizes of 40, 120, and 300mm for fry, juveniles, and adults respectively. The length of each life stage will be predicted by a bioenergetics model in the final version of the model.
