Notes:
Light blue line represents 2007 continuously linked habitat units. In this case, the river is moving left to right. The red line indicates a break between 2 units identified by a marked change in gradient, substrate, depth, etc. Each unit contains habitat characteristics collected during the survey.
In 2008, random sites were selected based on redd density in 2007 habitat units for more intensive surveying. 30 used and 30 unused sites were intensively surveyed by creating 10 “cells” at the downstream extent of the unit.
Each cell was a long as the channel was wide and extended to mid channel. Cells 1-5 up the left bank, and cells 6-10 down the right bank. Additional data included: velocity, conductivity
Redd and carcass surveys were conducted throughout the spawning season which is mid-Sept-Oct.
In this pic, the extensive unit would have 9 redds and cell 1 would as well.
