Klickitat Hatchery Road Bridge Project

In the fall of 2009, the Yakama Nation contracted with Apollo, Inc. to construct a 165-foot, single-span, one-lane bridge over the Klickitat River on the Klickitat Salmon Hatchery grounds, near Glenwood, WA. The bridge connects to a new access road, providing authorized personnel access via the east side of the Klickitat River. This new road will provide a more secure route than the existing access road which has a 22% grade that limits access during winter months. Secure access across the river will allow for future development of hatchery property on the east bank of the river and provide pedestrian access for sportfishers to the east bank of the river.

Bridge placement occurred on August 31, 2010, with full project completion by early fall 2010.

Lampson Crane International Inc
., Apollo Inc. subcontractor, erected a Manitowoc ring crane with a boom over 250 feet high to install the 165-foot-long bridge.  Over 25 semi-truck loads delivered the 300-ton capacity crane for erection on-site.  The 80-ton bridge was delivered in three sections (two 18-ton sections and one 44-ton section) assembled for hoisting and installation onto the previously constructed pile-supported abutments.  The Yakama Nation was awarded $1,700,000 from Bonneville Power Administration under the 2008 Fish Accord Agreement which produced over 30 highly skilled jobs for the local region.
